Romantic Photos at Hotel Fort Des Moines
I first connected with Kaitlyn and Drew in early spring when they started wedding planning. Things didn’t work out initially for me to photograph their wedding, however things took a turn, and several months later, Kait reached back out and I still had their date open. We had made such a great connection when we first met that I knew photographing their wedding would be such a treat.
We began their engagement session at Hotel Fort Des Moines, which will be their wedding venue next year. I am in LOVE with the sparkly gown Kaitlyn chose from Anthropologie.
Iowa Capitol Engagement Photos
Recently, I have photographed many times at the capitol building in Des Moines, featuring the beautiful grand staircase in the rotunda or the law library. For Kait & Drew, we mostly photographed in the rotunda. If you’re planning to photograph at the capitol, it is a beautiful setting. My best tip – ensure you are there on a day that representatives are not in session, and that you start early enough to photograph your session during visiting hours (which end at 5 PM, though you will be asked to leave very politely by the staff starting around 4:30 PM)
After photographing inside the capitol building, we enjoyed some time outside with the most beautiful weather! Toasted with some champagne and has some good laughs.
We ended the evening with a few fun photos out in the city to grab more of that downtown vibe near Hotel Surety and Mulberry St Tavern. One of my favorite engagement sessions of the year! Thanks for an incredible time, and I know we’ll have no trouble with wedding photos – you were naturals in front of the camera!
