Anne Marie & Mark | Summer Tented Iowa Wedding

Anne Marie and Mark hosted their summer wedding on her family’s farm in Cambridge Iowa, although the couple calls Chicago home. They created a wedding that every little girls dreams are made of. The tent, the colorful summer florals, the family church, the family farm…all parts of their sentimental day to celebrate Anne Marie and Mark’s relationship.

There were so many heartfelt moments throughout their day. Mark made the ring box with his dad and Anne Marie gifted Mark the watch he wore. They exchanged heartfelt, funny and personal vows. Anne Marie’s speech during the reception was a real tear jerker. This was a wedding full of sentiment and meaning in every detail. They partied and danced the night away under a tent in Anne Marie’s favorite place on earth. Her grandparents farm.

Cathleen & Nate’s Outddoor Summer Wedding | Glen Oaks Country Club

Cathleen and Nate chose to celebrate their love during a beautiful outdoor ceremony in at the equally beautiful Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, IA. It was a hot and windy summer day, but that didn’t stop us from getting stunning portraits, as Glen Oaks features beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces creating beautiful backdrops for all parts of a wedding day. It’s a favorite venue of ours for sure. I’m sure you will agree after looking through the stunning images of their day.

We love that Cathleen chose fuschia and pinks for her florals and dresses. It was a perfect compliment to the mood and feel of their wedding. Surrounded by an incredibly supportive family and many close friends, they celebrated their day amongst the people they love the most. Their ceremony and reception had many personal touches, funny and poignant speeches and was a beautiful expression of who Cathleen and Nate are as a couple.

We ask every couple a few questions after they finalize booking their wedding photography with us, and this is always one of my favorites! Here’s what Catie & David said:

In 50 years, what kind of story will be people tell about you as a couple?

That we are a very loving couple who are able to get through anything life throws at us and live a happy life with our family.

That’s the dream, right? Meeting them, they are some of the sweetest people – and their dog too! Beth met them in Des Moines at the arts center for their engagement session on a hot summer day – here’s some of our favorites!

Irishman Acres’ Clover Barn Des Moines Wedding | Michelle + Cory

If you are from Des Moines and love the outdoors, you may have ridden your bike along the Chichaqua Valley Trail and seen a wedding happening at the Irishman Acres Clover Barn. That is exactly what Michelle + Cory did in the early days of dating. “We chose this venue because it is right next to the Chichaqua Valley Trail where we liked to ride our bikes together when we first started dating. Several times when we would be riding, I would see a wedding happening at the barn and I just knew that someday that would be us. So when he asked me to marry him, I knew that’s where I wanted the wedding to be!” said Michelle.
Michelle said her vision for the day had always been something romantic and timeless. “I don’t like things to be too ‘overdone’ and my worst fear is looking back at my photos in 20 years and feeling cringy about the styles and fads. At the same time, I think I am still choosing to incorporate some of the current wedding fads anyway, lol. But I think the reason my decorating scheme is so simple is that I want the emphasis to be on the people (and us) and not on the fancy decorations. I want to concentrate on the celebration and the time with our loved ones.”

tournament club of iowa wedding

Abby & Matthew | Tournament Club of Iowa Summer Wedding

Abby and Matthew had a beautiful wedding on hot summer day in July. They chose the Tournament Club of Iowa for the ceremony and reception space set against the backdrop of the perfectly manicured golf course. There is no shortage of perfect spots for portraits at this venue. With the lush landscaping and building architecture, every image looks like it is from a storybook.

After meeting online in 2020, it was a slow start as they chatted on and off for a few months after struggling to find a time to connect in person. But finally, after meeting for pizza and closing down the restaurant on their first date, the rest was history. Things progressed quickly from there and they shared a special trip to St. Louis taking in the sights, shopping and dinner. It was pretty clear from here on that things were serious. Matthew planned a proposal on the campus at Iowa State University, and of course Abby said yes. They had such an incredible day celebrating with their closest friends and family.

Anne & Daniel | Curate East Village Wedding

Daniel always wanted to give Anne the wedding of her dreams. They had many delays due to covid, many plan changes and much anticipation, they finally were able to celebrate in the East Village in Des Moines at Curate. Starting the morning at her parents home, Anne could hardly contain her excitement. Their love story is beautiful and their first look did not disappoint. It was hard to tell who was more excited, as they both freaked out a little, ok..a lot, when they got to see each other! They had waited for this moment for a long time. We had a beautiful place for portraits in Des Moines near the Shattering Silence Memorial.

Elissa & John | Catholic Wedding in Grinnell

Elissa was stunning in her classic and elegant gown. The neckline and lace back were a hushed reflection of her quiet but tenacious attitude towards this big moment. The light was just right, and she was radiant as she started down the aisle. Earlier, at the first look, John was speechless as he turned to see her for the first time in her gown. After eleven years together, it was obvious that they were ready for this moment. Meeting in college and sharing a love of music and saxophone, it became apparent quickly that they had more than just musical chemistry going on. They have grown together as a couple and musicians and have learned how to compliment each other in beautiful ways as they prepared for marriage.

Engagement Session Downtown Des Moines World Food Prize

Emily & Taylor Engagement | World Food Prize

Emily and Taylor had the most perfect fall weather for their downtown engagement session. After meeting in college at a party, it didn’t take long for these two to know things were meant to be. During a trip to Hawaii, Taylor had planned an epic proposal on the beach at sunset, complete with hiring a photographer to capture their special moment.

We started on the perfectly manicured grounds of the World Food Prize building in Des Moines. We love to do engagement sessions here, as there is so much variety in such a small area. The steps on the front and back side of the building add so much detail to the final images. After exploring all of the little areas around the building and gardens, we headed down to the riverwalk for a totally different look and feel. We love to include different architectural details, like the bridges in the background

Claire & Keith’s Classic White Wedding at Hotel Fort Des Moines

It all started when Claire and Keith met when they were in the wedding party at a mutual friends’ wedding. The drinks were flowing and the dance floor was inviting a connection – and it stuck! They continued dating long distance until Claire moved closer to complete law school. Suddenly, a 7 hour drive was cut down to a 2 hour drive. Throughout many dates, which likely included sushi, breweries, and golf, they soon were ready to start traveling together too. After a trip to Austria and a surprise proposal on the beach during a family trip, they began to plan for their classic ballroom wedding at Hotel Fort Des Moines.

One of my favorite things to ask couples is what they want to be known for as a couple as they grow old together. The responses always reveal something so great, here’s Claire & Keiths…
