One of my favorite things I was able to do this spring was meet up with Kate & Miles in Chicago for their engagement photos! I drove out for the weekend (we camped with our kids overnight and made a weekend trip out of it) and spent half of a day exploring downtown Chicago, visiting all the best spots. It’s been a few years since I’ve photographed in Chicago, so it was such a treat to revisit several locations along Lake Michigan, and find a few new ones as well!
I met Kate & Miles at their apartment, and then we drove together downtown to the museum campus to start. This first set of photos was taken near the Field Museum. I am obsessed with the landscaping and classic architecture! Plus, all the trees and flowers were just starting to bloom with the early spring weather. everything looked beautiful!
This little corner spot was perfection!
We started their session with a little bit of sunshine peaking through, but it was a cool spring day. Perfect for photos!
One of my favorites!
This was the perfect spot for romantic engagement photos in Chicago!
After spending time around the museum campus, with a few little spots of sunshine popping through, we shifted to a different part of Chicago, closer to where Kate & Miles went on some of the first dates. At one point, they also thought about purchasing a home in this part of town – so visiting for a few photos was super special!
From there, we walked to Lincoln Park for a bit, and unfortunately, the wind really started picking up – it was COLD right off Lake Michigan!
A this point, it was beginning to get very cloudy and quite dark. As a photographer, we often hear that clouds are best for photos, which in general is true. But when it’s DARK and cloudy, it can make it quite difficult to have beautiful color and light. So…I was starting to get nervous! We were supposed to have another hour of time, but it was just so dark…and WINDY! Which means, we were all getting very cold. But we braved the lake front for some iconic Chicago skyline photos anyways. And I’m SO glad we did, because these are some of my favorites!
The wind was CRAZY – I think the temp was in the upper 30s, so poor Kate was shivering, we had coats thrown to the side to get warm, but it was 100% worth it!
Spinning with laughter in the crazy wind – so good!
These next two are some of my favorites from the whole shoot! I love how they turned out!
Check out the crazy waves – it was so so windy!
From the lake front, we drove back towards Kate & Miles’ apartment and we found this fabulous little spot under the L. I love these!
A fun double exposure!
It wouldn’t be a Chicago engagement session without photos featuring the L train!
