This seems to be the year where all of my seniors are coming from out of town, which is so fun! I’m meeting so many great people, and Mickella is one of them. She actually used to live in Grinnell, and when her family relocated an hour plus north, she stayed connected to Grinnell through dance and many friends. When we started talking more about her session, she mentioned she’s been waiting several years for me to do her senior photos! I was so flattered and honored! How sweet is THAT!?! I was thrilled to work with Mickella to give her the photos she had been dreaming of all these years.
After hair and make up downtown, we did a few quick shots in the brick alley. I almost always bring a senior here, even if they don’t request it, because I like the challenge of photographing the same location in different ways so that each senior has something unique.
Most of the time during a shoot, I’ll give each senior the chance to “free pose” – basically, I tell them to have fun and just try goofing around a bit and posing for the camera. Often times, this results in lots of laughter because nearly everyone feels a little uneasy at first. But Mickella just went for it! This shot on the right was the result of her free posing, and I love it!
One of my favorites!
I don’t know what it is about this last image, but I love it. So simple and beautiful!
Have an awesome senior year, Mickella! It was so much fun working with you!
