Nothing could stop this wedding from being truly wonderful. Not rain. Not the wrong boutonniere. Not even a seven-year-old wedding crasher. Nothing. After planning for quite some time, Katie & Chris were able to celebrate with their close friends and family at an intimate ceremony at Kent Union Chapel, followed by a festive and relaxed larger reception for their crowd of friends at the Old Glove Factory in Grinnell. It was a truly wonderful day, and I’m so glad I could capture it!
One thing I absolutely loooooooved about this wedding was that Katie and Chris put a lot of thought into the handmade details and theme for the day, and it wasn’t overly fussy or cliched in any way. As their closest friends proclaimed during multiple toasts, their eclectic and brilliant personalities are perfect for each other, and this truly shone through on their wedding day. I mean, really, who can make a historic inn, 50s ice cream parlor (even if it was impromptu), a tea buffet, and flamingo croquette all work together for one fabulous day!?! 🙂
We started off the day at the Marsh House, a beautiful historic B&B in Grinnell.
These gorgeous tea bag inspired invitations are by Ephemera Designs in Des Moines – so perfect!
Katie had her dress made specifically for her by Sheena Lyn Solis, who she found on Etsy.
Katie’s grandma gave her a sixpence to put in her shoe for good luck 🙂
All of the flowers were handmade paper flowers, provided by Flower Bazaat via Etsy. I was absolutely stunned by the creativity and beauty of each boutonniere, arrangement, and bouquet! This boutonniere ended up being the wrong one for the day (they had several options) but I still loved it!
Chris, ever the handsome and dapper fellow, had his suit custom made by Indochina.
The first look…my view:
And Jo’s view (my second shooter) on the left.
Aren’t the handmade flowers just lovely?
Just as their wedding ceremony was about to start, it began to POUR outside. Chris & Katie had been hoping toe top at the local road-side ice cream joint afterwards, but they would have been soaked. Luckily, Grinnell has an adorable vintage soda fountain called Candyland Station that was an excellent back-up plan. Plus, I was able to shoot someplace completely out of the norm! I loved it 🙂
My favorite.
Their reception was held at the Old Glove Factory, which is part of Grinnell College. I’ve never seen a wedding there, but it was so fabulous! The tall atrium and balconies made for some unique and fun shooting challenges!
Music provided by the Two Many Strings Band, a local favorite.
I’ll confess – I may have brought an extra cupcake home. They were divine. Many thanks to Creme Cupcake and Christina for satisfying my sweet tooth.
And last, but certainly not least, the flamingo croquette! To round out the tea party Alice in Wonderland theme.
Congrats to Katie & Chris! Enjoy the rest of your honeymoon in Mexico!
