I first “met” Jenny several years ago when she stopped by my booth at a bridal show hosted at Grinnell College. At the time, she wasn’t engaged yet, but she was “scouting things out,” as she said. No, she wasn’t a totally overzealous non-bride, she had a good reason to be there other than just to browse: she’s actually one of the bakers for the college, and makes many of the wedding cakes! Fast forward a few years, and Jenny contacted me because NOW she was engaged, and super excited about her upcoming wedding in Tama. She and Sam had grand plans for a beautiful summer wedding with their closest family and friends. Jenny sent me a Pinterest board at some point with ideas she was hoping to incorporate in her wedding decor, and in the coming months, everything came together beautifully. Jenny designed one of the most intricate and detail oriented receptions I’ve ever seen, and she did it ALL herself. I’m still impressed when I look through all of her photos!
When the big day came, one thing didn’t go as planned: it POURED. And I mean, it was raining harder than any rain we’d had the entire year. I was bummed for Jenny, because I knew how important her photos were to her, and I knew she had her heart set on a few specific ideas that meant we’d be outside. But really, there was no way to make it work with how much rain was coming down. Fortunately, there were a few ways to adapt — the carport at her church worked fabulously for portraits before the ceremony (in fact, it was my favorite spot we photographed all day!), and as luck would have it, the rain cleared a bit after their ceremony! Jenny & Sam braved the drizzle, and we captured some truly memorable portraits that I absolutely love!
To Jenny & Sam: it’s been SO FUN getting to know you guys over the past year and a half. From your winter engagement session, to your rain soaked wedding day, you were a breeze to work with and put your trust in me, for which I am supremely grateful. I adored your wedding day and am so thankful I could celebrate with you two. Cheers!
